The same old advice that comes from those big authors is valuable, to be good an author must READ AND WRITE, a LOT.

Confidence is earned, you have to work for it.

Have you engaged in role playing for the various sales, customer service, HR & interviewing people on your team?

Confidence is critical if you and your team / company are to succeed as you might, but it is a transient element as everything changes so often and in ways that leaves some people behind.

Role playing is but one of the many tools you can employ to help people step up and become more fluid in how they deliver their message and communications in general.

Another great tool is the sharing of books whereby the material becomes fodder for short and to the point meetings where the content is discussed or debated and the team learns from the session.

Confidence you ask? Yes it is tough, and not everyone is confident all of the time, but we can all learn to improve and become more competent which leads to confidence.

Bringing in a trainer / mentor can clearly help, the investment will more than pay for itself.

2021 and beyond. What do you need to change in order to succeed as you know you can?

People are habitual, and YOU are no different.

How will you accomplish those things that you say are important ... to YOU?

Reading helps, and although fiction is OK, it will not help you in your quest.
Mentors can do a lot for YOU, that is "IF" you listen AND apply those things that you and your mentor agree upon.
"IF" you are coachable, who is your coach?

Experience has taught me that the future is always different and that what I have done is not as important as what I will do.

Therefore ... developing discipline, an ability to ask and then listen in order to learn and understand while remaining the moment, without distractions are what comprises some of the behaviours and traits that can help pave the way for YOU.

Managing is dead. Coaching and leading has replaced it.

Not long ago a manager could walk in, tell others what to do, and then go about his business.
Today those tasked with responsibility over others need to understand and practice true leadership and coaching skills.

How hard is it?
It is NOT hard, but it has to be done.

The leader / coach has to set the agenda / goals, select those who are suited to perform what he expects, verify that they in fact have the skills and abilities to do so, and then keep tabs as required leading to successful completion.

Some people feel threatened by the newer generation of workers, saying things like how different they are, how they don't care, etc.

But ... if your recruiting methods are well developed, and the onboarding process is clear and crisp, those who make it to this point will understand what is required, what the tempo is, understand what they are expected to learn and how to apply said knowledge, and the rest is just work.

There should be no fear about firing someone. If you utilize a true "ONE ON ONE" process on a regular basis, capture the notes and conversation that allows proper follow up and subsequent actions / responses, what is there to fear?

If self-worth & confidence is what you are after, why not work on the 95% that the mirror cannot capture?

After facilitating another corporate meeting built around a solid agenda I wanted to remind all readers that success comes a LOT more from what you do, Vs what you say. I quote YODA because his simple words resonate, all day long. "DO OR DO NOT, THERE IS NO TRY".

What is your sales strategy? Are your people confident? Do you role play?
Are the goals you have in mind, actually written down and shared on a regular basis, and tracked?
Are you holding on on one meetings with your crew in order to help them see all the good things they do, AND also some ideas on how they can improve and address areas of poor performance or poor choice?

Success it appears is not for everyone, as a lot of people simply do not do what it takes to achieve what they term as success.

Everything you do will either take you closer or ... further from your goals. Now what?

The time is always nownownownow  NOW  ... but you know that. The question is, what are you doing with the remaining hours and days of what is your life? Have you delineated your goals, applied SMART criteria, and march towards their completion each and every day? If not, why not? Is the beer you are drinking as often as you drink it helping you get to where you want to go? Are the movies you watch, the news you read and the time wasted on social media accelerating your achievement of what you say is important?

Set goals.
Check your progress.
Perhaps apply a SWOT analysis on YOURSELF. (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats)
Challenge yourself.
Develop your power of will, after all ... who is in charge of YOU?

Now ... did you need to hear these admonitions? Does it help to have a coach? Have you played sports where a coach has goaded you on to levels you would not have reached without them?

If what you do will either bring you closer or further from your goals, what are you doing in order to be successful?

Being that it is Friday, you will hear many people moan about how hard they work, how hard life is, and how hard it is to earn the success that they feel they deserve. Without being judgemental, do you see where they are putting in 100% all day long?

Are they focussed, sweating the details, and ensuring that things go as well as they can?
But ... enough about them, what about you? What more can and should you do to secure that place you want to be in?

Look no further than your self, as your life is all about "YOU Working With YOU", and if you look at yourself, you will see that there is a lot more you can do.

Time? You only have so much of it.

What is on your agenda for today? What important task must you complete and by when? What of your people? Is there a stated completion date / time on those things that need to be done?

Think of meetings where there is no agenda and people just tee off on unrelated topics. Can you say a waste of time when it would have been so much wiser to create an agenda with bullet points and time allocated for each? Have you charted how expensive these meetings are in real terms?
New competition in every industry feeds on the inefficiencies of the incumbent. With many products / services being more like commodities, what separates the profitable entities from those who are not?
Time and it's application is what makes the difference!

Your success and that of your company / employer is determined by how well you and others learn to work with the 86,400 seconds a day, and importantly how you work with yourselves. Teams are made up of individuals that are focussed, and they always know how much time is left on the clock.

Self - Coaching

Telling others what to do is easy, do you implement your advice?

Self coaching is much harder than coaching, just look at all the opinions you dish out concerning other people. How they look, what they earn, the state of their health, their habits and so much more.

Commenting is easy when it comes to others, but ... how are you at noticing your own current state, and then making the changes that you know you should or need to make? It starts with candor, a willingness to take control of the only thing we have true domaine over, and of course that is YOU.
Once you get a grip on yourself get clear on those goals you want to bring to fruition, write them out in SMART fashion, and focus your efforts and thoughts on achieving those goals. (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time bound).

Today is the 13th of June, 2018, a day that will never return, what will you do with it?

What will you start and what will you finish?

You will not bemoan the things you did in your life when you get too old to do anything, but you will reflect on those lost days and opportunities that you squandered simply because you did not have a clear goal to work towards.
The point: Learn to coach yourself, develop discipline and live the life of your choosing, it is yours.

For best results in what is, your life, learn to coach your-self. Once you are competent at this, then coach others.

You don't repair your car, device or computer yourself because you are not competent at it, so why would you try to motivate / inspire / train others on your own? Training pays huge dividends, but like any investment you have to keep at it or the initial investment will just fade away. What are the aspects of your business that you would like to perk up or change? Let's talk.

Those who do not read are no better off than those who cannot read.

For those of us writing books, training programs, blogs etc we face a changing landscape that is hard to navigate at times. With time bleeding out of the day, our potential readers / clients have little of it remaining and are left with a simple choice, replace what might be a worthless activity with reading, as we believe that what we are writing is worth the time it takes to read.
Although social media has people spending their time reading a little, what value does it deliver when you consider the options?
Investing in real books and training programs will have you think, it will challenge you to consider a new way of seeing and perhaps even spark change in your life.
Read you say, I don't have time. Really? Is that true or have you simply taken on habits that you find hard to break, or that are easier than reading.
Think about it, and then do something.

What you think and say to yourself grows, hence choose wisely.

Self Talk & Meditation

Everyone has concerns, doubts, worries, fears … swirling about, but some make their way through the day seemingly above the fray of life, why is that?

Much like the importance of a good breakfast, a brief period of meditation in the morning will stop the vortex of noise in your head and calm the winds, leaving you in a true awakened state.

Habits are learned and reinforced everyday as you know, and if your morning ritual has you reaching for your device, turning on the radio, reading the news in all its forms … filling your head with noise, why not change your routine and start another, one that will help you advance in life? (what is good about the news? Is it ever good?)

Positive self-talk comes from perspective, and perspective comes from considering your life from a calm place which you can so easily access. How can you possibly appreciate life and think things through when you are allowing yourself to be bombarded by all manner of noise to which you have NO real measure of influence.

If you want to have influence over what is your life, start from the start, which is the commencement of each day, as each day is an opportunity to create and enjoy a new beginning.

If you have not applied meditation (Yoga) in your life, you should, your life is all about YOU Working With YOU.

Think Good Thoughts, ESPECIALLY About YOU!!!!!!

Selling with confidence.

Being confident is a lot more productive than being fearful.

Fear of grizzly bears, tigers, snakes ... may be rational, but fear of selling? Really? Why?

As the image shows, learning to jump does not start with a leap over the grand canyon, no no no, it starts in a gym or on a track where incremental gains are made.
Selling is the same, you learn with your peers where you role play , with established accounts where the client is expecting a new person to come see them, perhaps in the company of a mentor or ... if you are brazen enough and like a challenge, on a cold call by yourself.

In all cases, what can happen? What harm can befall you, how can you be damaged? Anwer? YOU cannot be harmed in any way.

Confidence comes from extending beyond your comfort zone, certainly you can be confident doing the same thing, playing the same games, riding the same bicycle you had when you were 5, but how much fun is that?

Selling is the 2nd oldest profession (and the oldest also required some form of selling), think of the ancient times when people bought from those selling from wagons or tents, flea markets, malls, stores, from the pesky telemarketers ... in all cases the sellers did not die because you did not buy, they just went on to the next prospect and profited as a result. (learning as they went)

Now back you you, yes you . What part of the selling process causes you to be nervous, shy, reticent, has you stuttering, developing nervous ticks and twitches, forgetting key aspects of why you even called the person ... ? Really? Why?

The answer? Selling is simply speaking with or communicating with others in an effort to establish a need, and then to fill that need. If there is no need, then nothing is lost and you have no need to feel anything except confidence that you did the best you could and that your self-worth has NOT been affected. If there is a need and you fill it, then it is a win / win and you should feel confident at your prowess at selling.

Selling is a great profession, and those who are the best at it read about it, practice it, role-play everytime they have a chance and live well as a result.

If you want confidence, get some . (nothing comes easy)

Employee engagement

Engagement is the quest, proper coaching will get you there.

Engagement is the quest for any company / organization / entity or in fact in ourselves.
Why are some people self motivated and achieve so much and others need daily reminders, memos, meetings, one on one sessions ...?

The truth is that the Pareto Principle is always at work, yes the infamous 80 / 20 rule plays all day long, every day.
Just look at the successful sports teams, the military, well run and profitable companies ( not any level of government) ... and you will see that a LOT of coaching is going on, all day - every day.
Yes, many of your people need coaching, so get over it and do it.

Certainly you cannot afford as many coaches as you see behind the bench in hockey, or the side lines in football, behind the scenes in the military ... but you can certainly be better performing the job of a good coach / leader.

What have you been reading that feeds your knowledge and ability to coach?
Have you been coached on how to coach?

More success as you define it is there for you to achieve, but ... you will have to change something for it to happen, and the first place to start is with ... you. (life is all about YOU Working With YOU)

"Attitude Sickness"?

Attitude sickness is worse than altitude sickness, but ... cureable.

How is your attitude? Do you own and convey a positive, forward looking view of life with all of its potential, and an understanding of the challenges that you "know" you will overcome?

Do you envision success, can you see it before you? (obscured by the work it will take, but it is there)
Or ... do you entertain visions of failure driven by comments from those who lack understanding, and who suffer from the same affliction?

Some people dread altitude sickness when in the mountains, whether skiing or just hiking, it can come upon you quickly but subside once you are back to normal altitudes.
Attitude sickness is an entirely different animal as it can be with you regardless of where you are, what you are doing, who you are with and even when you are alone trying to unwind.
What can you do about "your" attitude?

Can you see yourself getting better?

The cure / therapy is quite simple, read books that talk about success, these can be biographies where the author or subject of the book defines all of the challenges they overcame on the road to success as they defined it. (those who do not read are NO better off than those who cannot read)

Write out clear "SMART" goals and track your progress every day and perhaps throughout the day.
Remember that everything you do will either take you closer or further from the accomplishment of your goals.
Smile! Yes the act of smiling will change how you look making you far more approachable.
Develop your power of will, discipline and knock off the goals that were mentioned earlier. (financial goals, health, fitness, travel, skills ...)

Your life is all about YOU Working With YOU, if you can't or won't work with yourself, just who can you work with?

The BEST coaches are also the best recruiters.

Who do some coaches / leaders (managers) achieve so much with and through their employees / teams? It starts with how they recruit and builds from there. Objectivity is key, clarity keeps the expressed goals / job needs and the employees role in focus, and measurement of their progress allows for tenure to be built, or not. Turnover is NOT a bad thing, good coaches / leaders (managers) know this and benefit from a rigorous recruitment practice that builds and supports a vibrant culture. If you want success, built it. New day, new year ... what will you do that is new?

Would it help if you had goals? Clearly defined with dates, times ... often called SMART GOALS? Are you tired of hearing about goals, why? Unless you have arrived at the exact destination you had planned for at this phase of your life, you have nothing to lose from thinking, and thinking and then applying your words to a goal and then supporting it with discipline. Would it help, if YOU ... learned to focus on one thought or action at a time?

YOUR life is all about your ability to work with yourself. Your success, health, finances, love life ... are all reliant on you. Does this sound like a DUH statement? Perhaps so, but ... why are you in such a state when the ability to focus would clear up so many of your issues and propel you to new and different outcomes? Discipline is a word most people understand but sadly do not apply in what is their lives. It takes discipline to hone your focus and then maintain it until you have completed whatever task or undertaking you have chosen to commence. For your sake, learn to focus and then bask in your new found ability as it will do more for you than you can currently imagine. The time is always NOW, so when should you start?

You (and I) have never been here before.

Here I am, typing with one hand following surgery, realizing (again) that this day is NEW! to which you might say ... DUH, of course it is. But ... are you treating this day like no other? Or ... just repeating the same habits that brought you to where you are now? Really? Just like the image I chose to illustrate my point, this fighter never knows what comes next, and the more "in the moment" she is, the more chance she will have at winning. So ... back to today, the ever present nownownowNOW, are you here? Now? Reading or letting your mind do what it does?
This fighter knows discipline, hard work, practice, letting go of the past and never ever taking things personally, after all each day, each fight, each moment is different / unique. Do you see it that way? Are you disciplined? All the time?

The past may be fun to revisit at times, perhaps with old friends as you reminisce and laugh at the way things were.

But … too often people harken back to the boo boos, blunders, missteps, lies … that they perpetrated way back when.

Why?

What good does it do you to replay or rewind these old movies from your past, when in fact the story as you remember it is usually quite different and often wrong. What you think of as egregious acts are largely forgotten by others, and they have forgiven you.

So … build a new past, one day at a time, because that is how life deals the cards, one at a time.

Do today what know you should do, treat others today as you would like to be treated, do things right today so that you do not have to re-doo them later on.
